Our Rootsy Root Beer is just that -rootsy! It is modeled after root beers of old and is made with several very tasty roots, like Sarsaparilla, Ginger and Burdock. It features other botanicals too; some barks and some spices, rather than artificial flavoring like most so-called root beers available today. The idea here, is to revive the age-old tradition of why people drank root beers in the first place. Herbal root beers were traditionally enjoyed as spring and summer tonics for their numerous health benefits, more than for their taste alone. They helped revive ones health after a long winter of eating stored food, canned food, dried food and the heavier foods of winter. They assisted the digestive fire to adapt to the changeover to fresh foods of spring and summer.
Root beers typically featured one, or a combination of, alterative herbs. Alterative herbs, or alteratives for short, are herbs that ‘alter’ the condition of our body by helping eliminate metabolic wastes. They promote gradual and beneficial changes in health via cleansing and purifying the blood and aiding the removal of wastes from the body. Such herbs have broad ranging health benefits including; improved detoxification, anti-inflammatory effects, improved liver function, reduced lymphatic congestion and a reduction in inflammatory skin conditions to name a few. Our Rootsy Root beer revives this health promoting tradition and features these great alteratives; Sarsaparilla, Burdock and Pau D’Arco.
The herbs in Rootsy Root Beer not only boost your health they create a tasty beverage even kids will enjoy. You can brew the herbs and enjoy them as a tea, or you can turn the tea into a delicious and refreshing soft drink by adding carbonated water and sweetener. Directions are on the label. It is not an elaborate brewing process and can be a fun endeavor with kids. The herb mix is decocted (simmered) and then left to steep overnight to gather all the medicinal benefits and flavors of the herbs. The next morning you strain it, add sweetener and sparkling water and it’s ready to enjoy.
Rootsy Root Beer is a perfect adjunct to a spring cleanse. It also makes a great focal point for summer gatherings.
